Walmart Vs Amazon

Surprising news about Walmart, is that they’re making an acquisition deal with Vizio an ad-based television service.

Walmart is currently making this deal as they compete with retailer giant Amazon. As Amazon just launched ads on their own on demand TV service sometime last year, which in Q4 of 2023 Amazon made roughly 14 billion dollars off of 200 million prime subscribers.

It would make sense for Walmart to make this huge move as Vizio have an existing loyal customer base. Also as Amazon is a competing retailer giant, there are a couple of things that these two companies have in common is one, they sell goods, and two they have a substantial amount of customer data which can be lucrative if used well in the advertising space.

After the announcement of this soon to be acquired company, Vizio stock rose to 16%. And Walmart stock has risen to a 5% increase in share price. Not only that, but Walmart has increased the annual divided to a 9% increase

As Amazon has launched ads on Prime video and when investors saw the numbers of the earnings of Q4 2023, Walmart saw an opportunity to compete with Amazon as the numbers are quite staggering. Not only will Walmart will make back the money for acquiring Vizio but they’ll make an abundance of revenue very soon as they also have customer data like mentioned previously.

The Rising Demand for Chocolate

Currently in the world as of now, we’re seeing a shortage of cocoa beans in the commodity market because of weather conditions happening in West Africa. The major weather event in question have been ruining crop production in West of Africa, cocoa beans.

Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria are the biggest supplier of the world’s supply of cocoa beans. Which is responsible for 70% of the world’s supply of cocoa beans.

Now chocolate prices will have gone past their 46 year peak of chocolate prices which is wild to think.

Also it doesn’t help that one of Youtube’s biggest creator Mrbeast just launched or revamped their Feastables bar and has launched their chocolate inventory to all Walmart locations in the U.S which would probably drive the price of chocolate upwards as the Youtube creator is buying a heck ton of chocolate for his Feastable company.

Then there might be the case of shrinkflation where a consumer of chocolate products would buy these chocolate products at the same price they normally would buy, but just less chocolate which we have seen with cereals in the past.

A Price on Baggage

lately, airlines have made an increase in baggage fees and some airlines say that they don’t want to make the increase, but it’s a matter of making the airlines more profitable. This is partially due to the increase of operating costs and as well as the current inflated market.

Big airline companies like JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, and America Airlines are all making the jump from around 5 to 10 dollars increase per luggage.

America Airlines has stated that since 2018 they have not made an increase until recently because of inflation and other factors that are affecting the business.

But this sudden price change in baggage fees might discourage people to bring more luggage and limit the amount that they bring with them either business or leisure travel. It would also encourage people to smuggle things on their person like things you wouldn’t be bringing on yourself, such as basic amenities like toothpaste and soap to make a little wiggle room in your luggage so you can bring that extra shirt or something.

Or even wearing like 3 shirts to board the plane so you can have more clothes with you when you travel at a long period of time at your stay.

Almost like smuggling in candy when going to the movies.
