What Just Happened?

On Tuesday, Nvidia passed both Microsoft and Apple to become the most valuable publicly traded company in the world. That means it’s now worth more money on the stock market than any other company!

Nvidia’s stock price went up almost 3% in one day, reaching about $141.22 per share. This pushed the company’s total value (called market cap) to $3.44 trillion — just ahead of Microsoft.

How Did Nvidia Get So Big?

Nvidia is known for making super powerful computer chips. These chips were originally made for playing high-quality 3D video games, but now they’re being used for something even bigger — artificial intelligence (AI).

Big tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, and even OpenAI (the makers of ChatGPT) are all buying Nvidia’s chips to power their AI systems. That’s helped Nvidia’s business grow super fast.

Record-Breaking Earnings

Last week, Nvidia announced it made $44.1 billion in sales in just three months. That’s 69% more than the same time last year — a huge jump for such a big company. The profits were much better than what Wall Street expected.

Because of this, stock experts and banks like Morgan Stanley are calling Nvidia a “top pick” and believe it still has room to grow.

What About Microsoft and Apple?

Microsoft is still doing really well, with over $70 billion in revenue last quarter. But recently, they’ve been cutting jobs and laying off workers — over 300 employees just this week. That might be why their stock isn’t growing as fast as Nvidia’s.

Apple, which used to be the top dog, is now in third place, with a market value of $3.03 trillion.

Why It Matters

Nvidia’s rise shows just how important AI is becoming in the tech world. The company started out making chips for video games in 1993, but now it’s leading the future of technology by powering AI tools that people use every day.

This is a big deal — and a big moment — for the tech industry and the stock market.
